LANCASTER - Dorothy Kay Davis, 89, of Riverside Drive, died peacefully at her home Monday morning December 8, 2008.
Mrs. Davis was born in Groveton on April 14, 1919 the daughter of Nichol R. and Belle (Gammell) Kay.
Dorothy was raised in Lancaster and a graduate of Lancaster Academy. She and her late husband Stanley L. Davis resided for many years in Rochester, NY, where she worked as an insurance broker for Massachusetts Mutual Insurance Company. They later returned to Lancaster where she has resided for the last thirty years. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, square dancing and family visits. She and Stanley where former square dance champions in New York.
She was a member of the Lancaster Congregational United Church of Christ.
Family members include three sons Carl E. Davis of Linville, NJ, Nichol C. Davis of Dalton, NH, William R. Davis of Rochester, NY; two daughters Kay I. Antley of Prosperity, SC, Harlene A. Cusson of Lancaster; a sister Peggy Evans of Lancaster; 21 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be held Wednesday afternoon and evening December 10, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A funeral service will be held Thursday morning at 10:00 AM at the Lancaster Congregational United Church of Christ. Rev. Virginia Alvarez, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Forest Vale Cemetery, Jefferson.
