Obituary

Dorothy Gendreau, Lowell, MA native, passed away at age 96 on October 31, 2026 at her home in Lunenburg, VT surrounded by love and family.

“Dot” or “Nana” as she was called by her loving grandchildren was born May 27, 1930 in Lowell, MA to parents Manuel and Helen Perry.

She raised a family of four with her beloved husband Albert “Bill” Gendreau who passed in 1998. Dot’s greatest pleasure in life was spending time with family. Family gatherings and parties brought her the utmost joy. In their retirement, Dot and Bill spent their winters in Haines City, Florida and summers in Lowell, MA.

Dot enjoyed community bingo, baseball and bowling. Still bowling in her late eighties, she drew attention from colleagues and was regarded as the best bowler in her senior league, despite being the oldest.

A devoted Boston Red Sox fan Dot took great pride in working for the Lowell Spinners in her later years. Dot was a social butterfly and loved talking to and making friends, especially at the ballpark. Meeting past and future Red Sox players was a huge thrill. In her final season as a Spinners employee, she was honored by the team owner. She got to throw out the first pitch, a perfect strike, and they recognized her with a bobble head statue in her likeness.

Dot’s sons and late husband Bill were huge motorcycle enthusiasts. Her last ride was with her son Jerry around her neighborhood at her Florida home at the age of 89. A moment she was proud and thrilled to have had happen. The last 4 years of her life, she resided in Lunenburg, Vermont in the care of her son Jerry and wife Jeanne.

Dorothy is survived by her 4 children. Jerry Gendreau and his wife Jeanne of Lunenburg, VT. Billy Gendreau and his wife Paula of Dracut, MA. Allen Gendreau and his wife Laura of Newton, NH and Dorothy Surprenant of Lowell, MA.

She will be sorely missed by her 14 grandchildren and 52 great grandchildren.
