GILMAN - Dorothy, "Dottie" (Silsby) Bixby, 94, died Tuesday, November 29th at The Pines in Lyndonville, where she has resided for many years.
Dottie was born in Gilman Vt. on October 21, 1922 to James E. Silsby Sr. and Marion (Edney) Silsby. She attended Gilman Elementary School and was a 1941 graduate of Littleton High School. Dottie worked at Pratt and Whitney in Connecticut, returning to Gilman after WWII. She resided in Gilman for much of her life. Later she worked for the New England Bell Telephone Company in Littleton as a telephone operator for 23 years, retiring in 1979 when the phone company closed. She enjoyed her years as a telephone operator and made many friends during her time there.
Dottie was a member of the Gilman United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women's Club, and a lifetime member of the Northern NE Telephone Pioneers.
Surviving family members include her daughter Debra (Bixby) Murray and husband John of Albertville AL; a son David E. Bixby and wife Elaine of Lyndonville VT; three special granddaughters, Monica Bixby of Concord VT, Stephanie Bixby of South Burlington VT, and Jill Murray of Huntsville AL; a niece Sharon and her Edney cousins Charlotte, Cheryl and Linda.
Dottie was predeceased by her Father, Mother, a Brother James Silsby, and many other family members.
At Dottie's request, there will be no visiting hours or memorial services. Graveside services will be held in the spring at the discretion of the family.
