Douglas A Beaton

April 28, 1933 — July 3, 2024

Douglas A. Beaton passed away peacefully at his home on July 3, 2024, surrounded by his children. He was born on April 28, 1933 in Lancaster, NH, the sixth of nine children to Reta (Newell) and Phillip E. Beaton.

Doug was a lifelong resident of Lancaster, graduating from Lancaster Academy in 1952. He was a member of the 1951 State champion basketball team, and a catcher for the baseball team. He then served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. On August 25, 1956 he married Jane Ann Samson at All Saints Catholic Church in Lancaster. They were married for 56-1/2 years until she passed in February of 2013. Doug worked much of his life in the grocery business, many remembering him from Butson’s and prior years at the A&P. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was an avid fan of all the Boston professional sports teams. Doug was a parishioner of All Saints/Gate of Heaven Parish in Lancaster, and a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Doug is survived by his three children: Joan Hartford (Dennis) of Franconia, Douglas Beaton, Jr. (Nora) of Lancaster and Jeffrey Beaton (Katrina McLaughlin) of Lancaster; his six grandchildren: Nathan Hartford (Natasha) of CT, Amanda Jane Hartford (Kevin Abood) of NH, Aaron Beaton (Jill) of ME, Patrick Douglas Beaton (Natsumi) of VA, Brittany Beaton of Lancaster, Spencer Beaton (Jessica) of Lancaster; and seven great-grandchildren: Jackson Hartford, Mackenzie Hartford, Evan Beaton, Cooper Beaton, Austin Beaton, Calla Wills and Sadie Jane Beaton. He also leaves behind his sisters, Barbara Donovan of FL and Charlotte Lacasse of KY, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Doug was predeceased by his wife, Jane, his parents and six siblings: Phillip Beaton, Geraldine Oleson, John Beaton, Reginald Beaton, Gertrude Cliche and Paul Beaton.

At his request, there will be no calling hours. A private committal service will be held for both Doug (with military honors) and Jane, who are together again and no doubt cutting a rug on the dance floor.

As Doug was always compassionate about those who face hunger, please consider a donation in his memory to the Community Cupboard Food Pantry, 135 Main Street, Lancaster, NH 03584.

The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the nurses and staff at North Country Home Health & Hospice Agency for their care, dedication and compassion.
