LANCASTER - Edith "Polly" E. Chessman, 76, passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. She was born on January 17, 1936 in Berlin, a daughter of the late Elwin and Lyndall (Call) Brown.

Mrs. Chessman was a nurse's aide at Weeks Medical Center for 31 years. She enjoyed being active in the Scottish Dancing group, Senior Citizens of Lancaster, attending music events, fairs, lighthouses, traveling and cats. Mrs. Chessman loved spending time with her family and was a former Girl Scout Leader.

She was predeceased by two brothers Elwin and Clarence Brown, two sisters Lillian Brown and Winona Couturier. She is survived by her husband John Chessman of Lancaster, four children, Lyndall Demers and her husband Albert of Lancaster, David Chessman and his wife Ramona of Lancaster, Joyce Ball (her husband Jeffrey passed away in 2006) of Lancaster and John F. Chessman of Boston, Mass.; one brother William C. Brown, seven grandchildren, and two great-granddaughters.

Family and friends are invited to memorial visiting hours on Sunday, January 29, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Bailey Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 30, at 11 a.m. at the Christ United Methodist Church in Lancaster.
