GROVETON – Edward C. Dowland, 78, of York Street, died at his home, Saturday evening, November 5th, 2022, after a period of failing health. His family was at his side.
Edward was born in Holland, VT, on October 29, 1944, the son of Bernard and Gertrude (Weatherbee) Dowland. He resided most of his lifetime in Groveton working as self-employed building contractor. He also maintained the opening and closing of many seasonal properties on Maidstone Lake which led to more carpentry projects there. For a time, he also worked for Asplundh Tree Experts, until retiring in February of 2022.
He was a member of the Massachusetts Laborers Union Local 668.
Spending time with his wife and family brought him his greatest enjoyment. He loved get-togethers, especially during the holidays. He also loved cracking jokes and making people happy.
Surviving family members include his wife Doreen (Leclair) Dowland; his children, Dana, Robert, Bryant, Shelley, Kris; his siblings, Victoria Tear, Philip Dowland; 9 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and four siblings, Winston Dowland, Bernard Dowland, George Dowland, and Louise Simino.
A celebration of Edward’s life will be held at the Perras Treasures function room, 31 Perras Road, Groveton, Sunday, November 13 from 1:00-3:00 PM.
