Elizabeth Jean Couture

January 30, 1940 — August 25, 2019

Elizabeth Couture, 79 of Jefferson, NH passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on August 25th, 2019 after a period of declining health.

Elizabeth was born in Stark, NH to parents Carol and Clifton Fysh and lived there until marrying her soulmate and husband of 61 years Paul Couture on April 12th, 1958. In 1960 she became a mom for the first time to her son Richard and would go on to have 4 more children. Although her and her family moved to Connecticut for 10 years, shortly after the birth of her fifth child they knew that the North Country was their true home, and eventually moved home permanently to Jefferson.

Elizabeth is best remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. In addition to being a stay at home mother of five, she also cleaned cottages at the Waumback Resort as well as those of many seasonal residents. She was a nurse's assistant for a short time as well. She was a strong believer in volunteering in her community. This included being a 4-H leader, strong supporter and organizer of the Jefferson Festival, a member of the Tabernacle Society, and volunteered at the local hospital. She enjoyed crafting very much and held the "Home for the Holidays" home show at her house. She and her husband Paul operated a seasonal gift store out of their garage for 15 years and called it "Grandma's Stiches and Grandpa's Sawdust". She loved camping with the "Crazy Bunch" and enjoyed traveling across the country. No one will ever quite now the extent of her button collection, and everyone is still trying to match her famous recipe for meat pie.

Elizabeth is survived by her husband Paul Couture, brothers Bobby Fysh and Edward Fysh, son Richard Couture and his wife Karen of Westin, FL, son Raymond Couture and his wife Cathy of Chandler, AZ, son Jean-Mark Couture and his wife Kim of San Antonio, TX, Daughter Dolores Bell of Lancaster, NH, son David Couture of Jefferson, NH, 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

She was pre-deceased by her parents Carol & Clifton Fysh, brothers Eugene Fysh and Albert Fysh and her grand-daughter Jeanie Couture. In lieu of flowers, any memorial contributions can be made to a local charity of one's choice.

Calling Hours will be held Wednesday August 28th from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Lancaster, NH. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday August 29th at St. Agnes Church in Jefferson, NH at 10:00 AM, with a celebration of life to follow at the Jefferson Town Hall.
