GUILDHALL, VT - Elizabeth H. "Betty" Odell, 94, died Sunday morning May 13, 2012, at the Country Village Eldercare Center, Lancaster.
Mrs. Odell was born in Manhattan, Kansas, on November 25, 1917, the daughter of Willard and Estella (Fearon) Hubbard.
In 1929 she moved to Guildhall graduating from Groveton High School in 1935 and Lyndon Normal School in 1937. She taught school in West Brookfield and South Randolph, MA, from 1937 to 1947. She graduated from secretarial school in Boston, MA, in 1949. In 1954 she moved to Weymouth, MA and married C. Howard Odell who was a widower with four sons.
She was secretary to Tom Curtis of Curtis Farms in South Weymouth from 1954 to 1971 when she moved back to Guildhall to take over the care of the Crawford Homestead for her mother. From 1971 to 1990 she served as Guildhall Town Clerk. She lived with her sister and best friend Helen Boswell in Guildhall for 20 years. They later shared a room at Holton Point and Country Village, they were inseparable.
Surviving family members include two sons, William F. Odell and wife Edie of Hingham, MA., Thomas H. Odell and wife Cindy of Thornton NH; 4 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and 3 nephews. She was predeceased by two sons, Lawrence Odell and John Odell and her sister Helen.
Visiting hours will be held Thursday evening, May 17, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A funeral service will be held Friday morning at 11:00 AM at the Guildhall Community Church. Reverend Gerry Piper of Springfield, VT, will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridgwell Cemetery, Guildhall.
