Whitefield- Emalie Elizabeth Fogg, age 27, died July 25, 2013, surrounded by loving family in Whitefield, NH.
Emalie was born, September 26, 1985, to Amy and Brian Fogg, during Hurricane Gloria. Her birth was as traumatic as the weather and it didn't take long for the family to learn that she had cerebral palsy. They said she would never crawl, she crawled. They said she would never walk, she walked.
Continuing to defy all predictions, in 2004 Emalie graduated from White Mountains Regional High School, then Keene State College in 2008 with a degree in history. She moved to Washington DC to accept a prestigious internship focusing on the History of Americans with Disabilities at the Smithsonian Institute . She spent 2010 as the Patricia Morissey Fellow at the Institute for Educational Leadership. For the last two years she was employed by the US Fish and Wildlife Service. Although she loved her job, she took great pride in introducing herself as a "bureaucrat."
Emalie's previous good health declined suddenly and she struggled with conflicting diagnosis. Emma was forced to chose between her valued independence in D.C., and the loving support of family in NH. She came home to comfort and be comforted by her loved ones.
Though she was hardly ever at rest and quite noisy at times, we will say "Rest in Peace" for her body but "Shine On" for her soul. We will watch for glimpses of her huge grin in every sunrise and gorgeous red hair in every sunset.
Donations in Emalie's name should be sent to the Smithsonian Institution Accessibility Program c/o Krista Flores 14th Street and Constitution Ave., NW NMAH Room 1050 MRC 607, PO Box 37012 Washington, DC 20013-37012
