JEFFERSON, NH - Evelyn Christenson of Jefferson, NH, died peacefully at home on January 8, 2011.
Evelyn was born and raised in O'Neill, Nebraska. As a young woman she moved to Denver where she met her husband Harold. She traveled with him to his Air Force postings then spent many years in Bordentown, NJ, near his last assignment. Upon retirement, Evelyn moved to North Port, FL, enjoying many years there before relocating again to be near her daughter.
Evelyn was a devout Catholic. She was also a staunch Democrat because of her belief in equal opportunities for all, social justice and social responsibility. Evelyn epitomized a life of compassion lived out in volunteer service, especially touching the lives of many women and children while sharing the ministry of her daughter among the Sisters of Mercy and at Epiphany House in New Jersey. Evelyn was an accomplished artist, a talent shared by her son. She'd like to be best remembered for her love of God, family and friends.
Evelyn is predeceased by her parents Tom and Edna Coyne and her husband, Harold "Chris" Christenson. She is survived by a son Jerome of Lancaster and daughter Janet Christenson of Jefferson; grandson Jerry Christenson, his wife Jennifer and Ev's great grandchildren, Jack and Reese, who reside in San Antonia; and her beloved sister Winnie Kelly of Denver.
A gathering of family and friends will take place at Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster, NH, on Thursday afternoon, January 13, from 3:00 to 6:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will occur at All Saints Catholic Church, Lancaster, NH, at 10:30 AM Friday.
