Evelyn M. Grimard

July 31, 1926 — January 3, 2017

DALTON - Evelyn Marjorie Grimard, 90, of Forest Lake Road, passed away on January 3 with her husband and two daughters by her side following several years of declining health. She also had several faithful friends and caregivers assisting the family.

Evelyn was born in East Concord, VT on July 31, 1926. She was the daughter of Norman Crawford and Minola Carr Crawford. She attended school in Gilman. Evelyn married Robert A. Grimard on February 12, 1947 and they remained in the North Country raising their two daughters.

Evelyn was active in the community and church. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters, Emblem Club, Bethlehem Country Club, Red Hat Society, and local bowling leagues. She was an avid golfer and spent many hours on the golf course, enjoying every minute of this time.

Evelyn's talents extended to quilting, sewing, knitting, and crocheting. Her family was the recipients of many of her beautiful items that she made including baby blankets, quilts, and sweaters. She was an avid cook who enjoyed learning new recipes. She belonged to the Whitefield Extension Group for many years where she learned many new recipes and made many new friends.

In the late 70's Evelyn and Robert purchased a camp on Forest Lake which became their summer residence until her death. In the late 80's they built a home in Cape Coral, FL and continued wintering there until 5 years ago when her health began to decline. She loved her Florida home and took pride in decorating it and making it a beautiful place for them to spend their winters. They made new friends there and Evelyn continued her golfing on Florida golf courses. She continued her sense of community by volunteering at the Cape Coral Hospital and joining the Red Hat Society. She spent many hours working on her quilts, doing hand-work on many of them. She loved her life in Florida but was always ready to return to Forest Lake to spend summers with her family.

Evelyn was predeceased by her parents and all her siblings: Eleanor, Eva, Ethel, Ellen, Clyde, and Clarence. She was also predeceased by her son-in-law Herbert Hennessey, Jr. and her two sisters-in-law Rita Grimard Altamuro and Theresa Grimard Stevens who remained close to her over the years.

Evelyn is survived by her her husband Robert of Dalton; daughters Jean Bergin and husband Robert, and Joanne Hennessey; her grandchildren Derek Hennessey, Beth Hennessey Reynolds and husband Robert, Jameson Bergin and wife Ruthie, and Jonathan Bergin and wife Kate. She especially loved visits from her great grandchildren; all 8 of them!! During her declining years a visit and a hug from any of them made her smile. She was "Nanny" to all of them and will remain a very special part of their early childhood years. Her family also includes a niece, Pauline Belanger Chapman and a nephew, Raymond Belanger and his family.

The family is most thankful to Dr. Fernandez, Dr. Adams, Pat Steady, and the other Northwoods Hospice employees. A heartfelt thank you to the caregivers who also became special friends to Evelyn and her family.

There will be a funeral mass on Saturday, January 14 at St. Matthew Church in Whitefield at 11:00 AM. Evelyn was married in this church and has been a member ever since her marriage in 1947. A reception will follow at the Inn at Whitefield where friends and family can gather to celebrate Evelyn's life.

Evelyn will be greatly missed, especially by her family. She will, however, never be forgotten!

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Gate of Heaven Parish.
