LANCASTER- Florence Blanchard Amadon, 94, formerly of Summer Street, died Thursday afternoon, June 7, 2007, at Country Village Genesis Elder Care Center, Lancaster.
Mrs. Amadon was born in Yarmouth, Maine, on February 7, 1913, the daughter of George and Florence (Kwinkelenberg) Blanchard.
Florence was raised in Meredith, NH and attended school there. She was a 1933 graduate of Keene Normal School, earning a Bachelors Degree in teaching. During her career in education she taught in Machias, ME, Suncook, Franconia, and Milton, NH, Barre and Montpelier, VT. Her years spent in Montpelier she was an innovator in implementing newer educational philosophies in primary grades.
She was an active member in the Eastern Star and the Grange and was also a member of St. Paul's Guild, Lancaster Senior Citizens, and Alpha Delta Kappa.
She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Montpelier before moving to Lancaster where she worshiped at St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
Family members include a son David B. Amadon and his wife Iris of Lancaster; a daughter Muriel A. Johnson and her husband Charles of Downers Grove, IL; nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by, her husband Clarence P. Amadon in 1985.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday morning June 13, at 10:00 AM at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Lancaster. Reverend David Rose, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Summer Street Cemetery, Lancaster.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to the Amadon Scholarship Fund at Christ Episcopal Church, State Street, Montpelier, VT 05602. This fund assists in giving area youth the opportunity to attend summer camp.
