Frederick "Joe" Robinson

GROVETON- Frederick "Joe" Robinson, 84, of State Street, died at his home, on Thursday evening, May 7, 2009.

Mr. Robinson was born in Norfolk, New York on November 17, 1924 the son of Frederick and Anna (Johnson) Robinson Sr. Joe was raised in the North Country and has been a long time resident of Groveton. During WWII he served with the US Army Air Corps. For many years he was a welder and foreman for James River Paper Company retiring at the age of 62. He was a former Precinct Commander for the Groveton Fire Department and a founding member of the Groveton Trail Blazers. He loved to vacation, snowmobile and after retirement became an avid golfer with three hole-in-ones to his credit.

He was a member of the Fredonwarell American Legion Post #17, Groveton. Family members include his wife of 66 years, Alice (Gardner) Robinson, his children, Frederica Jewett of Groveton, Edward Robinson of Lancaster, Shirley Beliveau of Groveton, Edmund Robinson of Groveton, Brenda Stinson of Stratford, Dana Robinson of Lancaster, Paul Robinson of Fire island, NY, Michael Robinson of Groveton, Tina Collier of North Carolina and Mark Robinson of Groveton, 21 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, May 11, from 2-4 and 7-9 at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A funeral service will be held Tuesday morning at the funeral home at 11:00 AM. Father Raymond Ball, pastor at All Saints Church, Lancaster will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Francis Cemetery, Groveton.
