LUNENBURG- Gardner H. Balch Sr., 81,died Sunday evening June 11, 2006, at Weeks Medical Center, Lancaster.
Mr. Balch was born in Lunenburg, Vermont, on July 20, 1924, the son of Charles H. and Bernice (Young) Balch.
Gardner resided most of his lifetime in Lunenburg attending schools there and in Dalton. During WWII he served in the Army Air Corp in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He had several occupations during his life including farmer, building contractor, brick mason, and millwright. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and Red Sox fan.
He was a longtime volunteer fireman with the Lunenburg Fire Department and member of the Moose River Masonic Lodge, Concord.
Family members include his wife Beverly P. Balch of Lunenburg, four sons; Gardner H. Balch Jr., of Lunenburg, Stephen M. Balch of Hinsdale, NH, Howard C. Balch of Gilman, Lee D. Balch, of Lunenburg; two daughters; Sharon Thurston of Lancaster, Dianthe G. Charron of Tampa, FL; a sister Winonah Wood of Winchendon, MA; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by, his sister Augusta Bacon and a granddaughter Desiree Balch.
There are no visiting hours. A graveside service will be held Wednesday afternoon, June 14, at 2:00 PM in the Baptist Hill Cemetery, Lunenburg. Rev. Henry Cheney, pastor of the Lunenburg and Gilman Methodist Churches will officiate.
