Garnet I. Ridgwell

GUILDHALL, VT - Garnet I. Ridgwell, 93, died at her home Monday morning November 22, 2010, surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Ridgwell was born in Maidstone, VT, on May 15, 1917, the daughter of William H. and Mabel (Beecher) Hayes

Garnet was raised in Maidstone and moved to Guildhall, when she married Kenneth Ridgwell, where resided there for the rest of her life. During that time she was employed for many years as a secretary at Groveton Paper. She has also worked as the Deputy Clerk for Essex County and was the town treasurer of Guildhall for many years.

She was a longtime member of the Guildhall Community Church.

Other memberships include a longtime devotion to the Willena Benton Chapter #96 Order of the Eastern Star. She held many offices in her chapter and in 1982 she was the Worthy Grand Matron of the Grand Chapter of Vermont. At one time she was the Grand Representative from the State of Vermont to Saskatchewan. She was also an avid knitter.

Family members include two daughters, Arlene Morin and husband John of Lancaster, Helen Martin and husband Gerry of Guildhall; four grandchildren, Tiffany Benoit, Jason Matthews, Melissa Barney, Nicholas Martin; four great-grandchildren, Joshua Barney, Kaitlyn Barney, Madison Benoit, Spencer Martin; a great-great-grandchild Mya Barney; 3 nephews and cousins. Her husband Kenneth predeceased her.

Visiting hours will be held Tuesday afternoon, November 23, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A funeral service will be held Wednesday afternoon at 1:00 PM in the Guildhall Community Church. Rev. Sharon Van der laan, pastor of the Lancaster Congregational United Church of Christ will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridgwell Cemetery, Guildhall.
