Gerald F. Mclain

March 26, 1928 — December 16, 2012

GILMAN - Gerald F. McLain, 84, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 16, 2012 at Maple Lane Nursing Home with his family by his side.

He was born in Gilead, Maine on March 26, 1928.  A son to the late Mr. and Mrs. George and Hazel (Chase) McLain.

Gerald was a 1948 graduate of Gorham High School.  He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict.  Gerald was a lifelong paper maker and was employed at the Gilman Paper Mill from 1965 until he retired in 1994.

After retirement he was a delivery man for Sullivan Drug Store in Lancaster until 2004.  A job he truly enjoyed.

He was a member of the Sabatis Masonic Lodge #73, Gorham, for over 50 years.  He also received honorary membership in other area Masonic Lodges.

Gerald or "Jerry" as he was known by friends and co-workers was a kind hearted, hard working gentleman who always put family and friends before himself.  He was always willing to lend a hand and would "give you the shirt of his back."  Gerald enjoyed doing anything outdoors, but most summer evenings he could be found on the local riverbank telling stories, hoping to catch a perch or two.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nancy McLain, a son, Gibb McLain of Gilman, two daughters, Stacey Carri of Sequatchie, TN and Roxanne McLain of Gilman, two grandchildren, Michelle DuPont of Whitefield, and Jeremiah Lawson and wife Becky of Lunenburg, and five great-grandchildren, Aleah DuPont, Jackson DuPont, Vance DuPont, Griffin Lawson, and Dexter Lawson.

Gerald's wishes were that there be no calling hours or services.  Donations may be made in his memory to the Lunenburg Recreational Committee, PO Box 73, Gilman, VT 05904.
