GUILDHALL - Gladys B. "Bun" Gilcris, 97, died Monday afternoon, May 5, 2008, at Weeks Medical Center, Lancaster.
Mrs. Gilcris was born in Maidstone, VT, on October 29, 1910, the daughter of Alonzo Marquis and Adda Manning (Hubbard) Booth.
Bun was raised in Maidstone, graduated from Groveton High School and for a time worked at the Wyoming Valley Paper Mill in Northumberland. She married her late husband Oliver C. "Duke" Gilcris and while following his career they resided in Holyoke, MA, Hinsdale, NH, Gouveneur, NY, and Puerto Rico. In the 1970's Duke retired and they returned to the North Country and made Guildhall their permanent residence. She has been a resident of Country Village Genesis Eldercare since October of last year.
She was a member of the Guildhall Community Church and was a past member and Past Worthy Matron of the Willena Benton Chapter #96 O.E.S. in Guildhall. She was also a present member of the Adah Chapter #39 O.E.S., Concord, VT. Bun also enjoyed gardening and made the greatest fudge.
Family members include two daughters, Joan G. Breault of Guildhall, Joyce C. Eldridge of Lancaster; a sister Elizabeth "Bettie" Crane of Holyoke, MA; 5 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. 7 brothers and sisters also predeceased her.
Visiting hours will be held Thursday evening May 8, from 6-8 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A funeral service will be held Friday afternoon at 1:00 PM at the Guildhall Community Church. Rev. Albert Bunnell, pastor of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Whitefield, will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridgwell Cemetery, Guildhall.
