Glenna L. Pelletier

GILMAN- Glenna L. Pelletier, 86, most recently of the Coos County Nursing Hospital, West Stewartstown and formerly of Gilman, VT, died Saturday evening March 21, 2009, at the nursing hospital.

Mrs. Pelletier was born in Westfield, Vermont, on November 10, 1922, the fourth child and only daughter of William Henry and Leafie Eliza (Olin) Merritt. Orphaned at a young age and raised by cousins, she moved frequently, which may have lead to her ability to make friends wherever she went.

She married twice, first to Lorenzo Edgar Barrett and secondly to Eudore Joseph Pelletier to whom she was married to for 51 years and who adopted her children when they married on November 4, 1955. He predeceased her on September 5, 2007.

Glenna made her home in Gilman for over fifty years followed by Bethlehem, Groveton and the Coos County Nursing Hospital in West Stewartstown where she contentedly spent the last years of her life receiving round the clock nurturing and attention.

She held various jobs throughout her lifetime including that of a waitress at the Gilman Hotel where she met her husband "Eddie" when he stayed there while helping to build the Moore Dam in Littleton. She also worked in housekeeping, laundry and care taking positions and after retirement became known as the glue which held Gilman Senior Center together while operating "The Boutique". She enjoyed doing all kinds of crafts, especially embroidery, knitting and sewing, doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles, reading and most of all hosting holiday functions. There was always room at her table for one more person. She also had the knack of always finding just the right gift for everyone. After retirement she traveled to Alaska, Michigan and Louisiana.

Family members include four children, Judy Lynn Sterling and her husband Albert of Merrimack, NH; Cheri Ann Mire of Lancaster,;David Bruce Pelletier and wife Deirdre of Bethlehem and Kathy Gail Lovell and partner Robert Noyes of Columbia as well as a surrogate daughter, Ellen Ramsdell and partner Ernest Roy of Maidstone, VT. Her grandchildren, Brian Sterling and wife Karen and their son Josiah of Temple, NH; Karen Raymond and husband Jeff and their children Emilea, Grantham, Joel and Quincy of Amerherst, NH; Carmen Sterling of Merrimack, NH; Brenda Fontaine and husband Trapper of Lancaster and their children TJ, Savanah, Chad and Spencer and grandchildren Bailey Fontaine and Patricia Dingman; Anita Newell and husband Scott of Groveton and their children Krista and Arrin Newell and Brent, Tristan and Kirsten Kingsley and grandson Brennan; John Lovell and wife Candy of Maidstone, VT and their children Amber and Parker Lovell, Brent and Kristen, Ashley Carmichael, Angela Wright and Cody Curtis and grandchildren Riana Carmichael, Emma and Zoie Howland and Wyatt Curtis; Scott Lovell and wife Dawn of Maidstone and their children Cory Gilman and Robbie Worrell; Shawn Lovell and his daughter Savannah of Juneau, Alaska; Andrea Pelletier of Bethlehem; Robin Ramsdell and fiancé' Gary young of Maidstone and daughter Hannah Showalter; Steven Ramsdell and wife Jenny of New Bern, NC, and children Christopher and Lilly; and Chelsey Ramsdell and son Ayden Chase Ramsdell of Maidstone; Nina Noyes of Revere, MA and Eben Noyes, Jen Richard and Camden of Colebrook. Three brothers George Joshua, William Henry and Frank Albert Merritt predeceased her.

Memorial visiting hours will be held Saturday afternoon, March 28, from 2 to 4 at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. Burial will be held in the spring at the convenience of the family.
