GROVETON - Gloria J. Covell, 64, died Friday, February 18, 2011, surrounded by her loving family at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon.
Mrs. Covell was born in Lancaster, NH, on December 24, 1946, the daughter of Alfred and Doris (Brien) Gagnon.
She was a lifetime Groveton resident graduating from Groveton High School and working for a time at Styles Drug Store. She was also a secretary for Timberland Machine in Lancaster, and was employed 20 years as guidance secretary at Groveton High School, a job she particularly enjoyed working with her students.
Gloria had many hobbies including knitting, sewing, gardening, puzzle making, shopping and traveling. Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her grandchildren, especially on family trips to Disney World. She will be remembered for her generosity and as a loving and caring person.
Family members include her husband Thomas R. Covell of Groveton; two daughters, Tricia Gainer and husband James of Lancaster, Trina Beattie and husband Shane of Lancaster; her mother, Doris Gagnon of Bellows Falls, VT; four grandchildren, Breanna Hurlbutt who is attending Plymouth State College, Tyler Beattie, Spencer Beattie and David Gainer all of Lancaster; a brother Alfred Gagnon and his wife Carol of Cumberland, Maine; three sisters, Oriole Hawksley and husband Lee of Groveton, Theresa Germain and husband Ron of Lancaster, Lorraine Knowlton and husband Arnold of Bellows Falls, VT; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Her father Alfred predeceased her in 1999.
Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, February 22, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday morning at 10:00 at St. Francis Xavier Church in Groveton. Reverend Daniel Deveau, pastor, will officiate.
Donations in lieu of flowers may be made in her memory to the Norris Cotton Cancer Center, One Medical Center Drive, Lebanon, NH 03756.
