JEFFERSON - Grace Rose. Gross, 82, of Israel River Road, died Friday evening, January 10, 2020, at The Morrison in Whitefield. She was surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. Gross was born in East Bethel, Maine, on July 23, 1937, the daughter of Lewis Raymond and Rose Lillian (Billings) Smith. She was a graduate of Gould Academy, Bethel, Maine.
For 37 years Grace was the Food Service Manager of the Jefferson Elementary school cafeteria. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, cooking, being a grandmother and a great-grandmother. On many occasions she cooked for the Jefferson Fire Department and was famous for her homemade donuts.
Grace was a member of the National School Nutrition Association.
Surviving family members include her husband Neil Arden Gross of Jefferson; sons Bo Gross of Lancaster, Mark Coleman Gross and companion Line Host of Jefferson; daughters Melodie Rose Stevens and husband Timothy of Jefferson, Terri Ann Larcomb and husband Colin of Jefferson; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; foster brothers, Robert Parker, Russell Parker both of Maine, Robert Crouse of Connecticut; foster sister Eleanor Ryerson of Maine; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; two brothers Albion Smith and Lewis Smith Jr.; a foster brother Theodore Colby of Jefferson; and a daughter-in-law Rae Jean Gross.
Visiting hours will be held Monday, January 13th, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Jefferson Elementary School. A funeral service will be held at the school Tuesday morning at 11:00 AM. Reverend Dean A. Stiles, pastor of the Jefferson Christian Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the spring in Forest Vale Cemetery, Jefferson.
