GUILDHALL, VT - Harland Joseph Cantin, went home to be with his Savior Jesus Christ on April 29, 2017. He died at home surrounded by family.
Harland was born May 3, 1926, in Lancaster, New Hampshire, to William Charles Cantin and Elizabeth Anna (Hardy) Cantin. He attended high school at the Lancaster Academy and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy in which he served in the Pacific Theater during World War II until honorably discharged in 1946.
In 1949 Harland married Dorothy Marie Phillips of Wyandotte, Michigan. He and Dorothy resided in Wilmette, Illinois, where he was the successful business owner of Cantin Repair and Construction and Cantin Cabinet Shop. Harland worked as a Master Electrician, Master Plumber and Master Craftsman.
In 1967 Harland and his family moved from Wilmette to make their home in Guildhall, Vermont, where he had purchased his grandparents' old homestead. While living in Guildhall, he continued his construction businesses in Lancaster and the surrounding communities.
Harland loved his work and received great satisfaction from a job well done. He also loved Guildhall Hill where he enjoyed working on his land, logging, sawing lumber, making apple cider, sugaring, farming, and hiking. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and sharing his love of the mountain with them.
Harland and his wife attended Sutton Baptist Church in Sutton, Vermont. He was also a member of the Gideons International, and he spent many hours giving out Bibles and sharing the Gospel with others.
Harland and Dorothy were married for 63 years and had six children. He was predeceased by his wife in February of 2013. He is survived by his six children: Richard and his wife Brenda of Sarasota, Florida; Marie Wilder and her husband John of Bull's Gap, Tennessee; Barbara Wood and her husband Tim of Ometepec, Mexico; David and his wife Sarah of Lancaster, New Hampshire; Deborah Foster and her husband Jim of Columbia Falls, Montana; Ted and his wife Lori of Guildhall, Vermont. He is also survived by twenty-two grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, his brother Leonard Cantin of East Haven, Vermont, and his sister-in-law Irene Cantin of Lancaster, New Hampshire.
Visiting hours will be held at the Assembly of God Church in Lancaster, New Hampshire, on Monday, May 15, 2017, beginning at 9:00 a.m. A funeral service will also be held at the Assembly of God Church at 11:00 a.m. followed by a graveside committal.
