LANCASTER - Harold "Keith" Matthews, 93, formerly of the McKee Inn, died August 7, 2015 at the Country Village Health Care Center, Lancaster.
Mr. Matthews was born in Lancaster on July 14, 1922 the son of Harold E. and Ethel Mariah (Johnston) Matthews.
During World War II he served with the US Army and later worked for the Army and Navy Maritime Commission. For 32 years he worked at the Gilman Mill for Georgia Pacific as an electrician. Keith loved Alaska and after retiring in 1985 resided there and in California for 13 years. Returning to Lancaster he volunteered much of his time to the community at Weeks Medical Center, Wheels on Meals, the Lancaster Welcome Center and the Lancaster Historical Society. Keith also loved to fish.
He was a member of the Groveton American Legions.
He is survived by his son Keith "KC" Matthews of Lancaster and a niece Patricia Thibodeau of Enfield, CT. He was predeceased by his wife, Eva Frances (Tauza) Matthews; and two sisters, Kathleen Pohl and Vivian Dooley.
A graveside service will be held Friday August 14
th
at 10:00 A.M at the Summer Street Cemetery, Lancaster. The Groveton American Legion is overseeing services and military honors.
