Harriet Connary Allin

September 4, 1921 — December 28, 2012

Lancaster- Harriet Connary Allin, 91, died very peacefully on December 28, 2012 at the Harris Hill Center in Concord, NH where she had been a resident and tenderly cared for, for nearly 2 years. Her granddaughter, Christine Quigley, was immediately by her side.

Harriet was born at home at 59 Bunker Hill Street in Lancaster on September 4, 1921 the youngest of six children of Harlan T. and Hattie (Stone) Connary. Harriet lost her father when she was only 4 years old, but lovingly cared for her mother who passed away in 1980 at the age of 101. Harriet was also predeceased by her three brothers, Mervin Connary, Merlin Connary, Mason Connary, and two sisters, Harleen Connary Wilkinson and Henryetta Connary Kay. Harriett was her mother's namesake and continued to live in the homestead where she was born most of her life.

Harriet graduated valedictorian of Lancaster Academy class of 1939. For a year she attended business school in Connecticut.

On December 19, 1940, she married Charles T. Allin, Jr. They were together for 70 years until his death on December 29, 2010. They had two children, Bruce who died in 1982, and Charlotte.

Since 1957 Harriet and her family spent summers at their camp on Maidstone Lake, which came to be known as "Allin's Alley". She enjoyed baking, knitting and sewing, making her daughter's wedding dress in 1966.

Harriet worked for 25 years for the U.S. Government, including the draft board in the 1940's, and later for the Department of Agriculture as office manager of the ASCS office in Lancaster. She was also a member of the Lancaster Congregational Church.

Harriet's greatest pleasure in life was being "Nana" to her family. She devoted her life to her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, never forgetting a birthday and always lending a helping hand and giving them all the love and support she had.

Left behind are Harriet's daughter, Charlotte Naves and her husband Allen of Jefferson, grandchildren Rebecca Oleson of North Conway, her children Jessie Couture of North Conway and son Benjamin Couture of Portsmouth, NH; Tracy Quigley and her children Jaymi Foster and Nickolas Foster of Lancaster and Jefferson; and Christine Quigley, husband Ned and three daughters Charlotte, Eileen and Tula of Manchester.

Harriet also leaves behind her daughter-in-law Barbara Samson Allin of Fayetteville, NC; grandchildren Brian Allin, wife Katy and sons Luke and Bruce now living in Italy; Robin Allin Hix and sons Kayne, Spencer and Tanner of Fayetteville, NC; Kevin Allin of New Bern, NC; and Gregg Allin, wife Cheryl and children Hannah and Nathan of Raeford, NC.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
