JEFFERSON - Harry D. Gibson, 90, of Presidential Highway, died Thursday morning October 31, 2013 at The Morrison in Whitefield.

Mr. Gibson was born in Hauppauge, NY on May 11, 1923 the son of John and Gertrude (Nichols) Gibson.

Raised in New York Harry joined the US Navy at 17 years old and served during World War II in the Pacific Theater as a Aviation Machinist's Mate 1

st

Class.

He married Edith M. Wagner in 1942 and after the war he started employment with Republic & Grumman Aircraft.

He worked there many years as an inspector retiring in 1973.

At that time he and his family moved to New Hampshire and he worked many years at Currier Trucking.

Later he became the resident custodian and poet at Jefferson Elementary School.

He would entertain the students with his chalk board poetry and often share his life stories.

Harry had many other interests and accomplishments during his lifetime.

He was a former pilot and airplane builder, he raced midget cars at the Islip Speedway in New York, he enjoyed boating and for many years he and Edith operated a cabin rental and greenhouse business in Jefferson.

He was a Communicant of St. Agnes Church in Jefferson.

Memberships included the VFW and Kennel Club.

Family members include his daughter Christine Smith and her husband Michael of Jefferson; a son Daniel Gibson and his wife Ann of New Jersey; 3 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by Edith in 2005 and a son Peter in 2010.

Visiting hours will be held Sunday evening November 3 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday morning at 10:00 AM at St. Agnes Church in Jefferson.

Rev. Matthew Mason, pastor, will officiate.

Burial with military honors will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lancaster.
