Hazel Ruth Savage

April 15, 1925 — September 14, 2014

Hazel

Savage

89

of

Lancaster,

died

on

September

14,

2014

at

home

with

her

Family.

Mrs

.

Savage

was

born

in

Northumberland

on

April

15

,

1925.

The

youngest

daughter

of

John

A.

Currier

and

Jennie

L.

(Hill)

Currier

.

They

had

twelve

children.

She

is

survived

by

her

brother

Fred

Currier

of

Lancaster.  Hazel

and

Gilman

were

marred

on

Hazels

birthday

April

15,

1943. They

had

six

wonderful

children,

18

grandchildre

n

,

23

great

-

grandchildren

,

and

one great-great-grandson.

She

loved

her

family

very

much

.

Hazel

was a

Dairy

Farmer

and

Homemaker

and

could use

the

hay

kicker

better

than

her

husband

and sons.

When

Hazel

was

14

she

went

to

work

in

Colebrook

to

cook,

clean

and

take

care

of

a

family

of

5

children for a

$1

a

day.

She

met

Gilman

and

they

were

together

for

70

yrs.

When they

got

married

her

father

said

it

wouldn't

last

6

months.

Hazel

loved

her

family

dearly

especially

her

children

and

was

so

happy

when

her daughters

were

born.

She

hated

what

drinking

and

money

did

to

people

and

thought

it

was

the

root

of

all

evil.

The

Currier

family

where

carpenters

and

painters

and

wallpaperers.

Hazel

was

no

exception;

she

l

oved

to

decorat

e

, paint

and

paper

her

home

and

was

always

changing

curtains.

She

loved

flowers

and

cooking

.

Making

donuts

that

everyone

loved

and

donut men

that

every

grandchild

was

treated

with

each

time

they

were

made.

Another specialty of

Hazels

was

her

homemade

mac

&

cheese

.

When you

sat

at

Hazel's

table

you

were

sure

to

be

polite

and

always

wash

your

hands,

take

your

hats

off

and

never

reach

over

anyone's

plate.

She

played

Barbies

with

her

grand

d

aughters

as

long

as

they

kept

their

clothes

on

.

She

didn't

like

the

way

girls

and

women

dressed

today

and

would tell

them

that

the

cloths

made

for

young

girls

these days

were

hideous

and

if

they

dressed like

that

they

were

told

to get

their

butts

back

in

the

house

and

change

to

look

like

a

young

sophisticated

lady

.

Her

Grandsons couldn't

resist

a

home cooked

meal

by

gram

whether

they

had

already

eaten

or

not

but

were

always

taught

to

wash

their

hands,

remove

their

hats

and keep

their

pants

pulled

up.

One

of

them

would

even

throw

a

fit

until

he

got

his

way every time

he

went

past

the

house

to

go

and

have

dinner

or

a

hot

coco

whether

he

had

eaten

or

not.

She looked forward

to

her

phone

calls

and

visits

with

Louise,

her

life

l

ong

friend

.

Along

with

her

v

i

sits

with

Sharon

and

brother

Fred

Currier.

Hazel's

health

started

to

decline

about

6

or

7

yrs

ago

when

she

couldn't

go

too

far.

This

summer

her

oldest daughter

Sharon

got

to

take her

places

that

she

use

to

go.

She

was

so

happy

and

looked

forward

to

her

weekends

and

spending

time

with

her

family.

Hazel

was

very

proud

of

her

children

;

grandchildren

,

and

great

grandchildren, family

was

everything

to

her

.

Hazel

will

be

missed

very

much

by

everyone

that

knew

her.
