LANCASTER - Hazel L. Wood, 105, formerly of Gilman, VT, passed away Monday evening, December 11, 2023, at Country Village Genesis Eldercare Center, Lancaster.
Hazel was born in Lunenburg, VT, on September 20, 1918, the daughter of Frederick and Lila (Nichols) Whitehead. In 1936 she married Kenneth Wood, and they resided in Gilman for many years.
Hazel was a loving wife, mother and foster mother. Over the years she worked at various jobs including the Gilman Mill, Connor and Hoffman Shoe, Littleton, Kent Nursing Home, Lancaster, and cooked for the Gilman School.
Hazel was a longtime member of the Gilman Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women’s Organization, and the Gilman PTA. At home she enjoyed tending her vegetable and flower gardens.
Surviving family members include her two daughters, Susan Hartshorn of North Myrtle Beach, SC, and Beverly Rosen of Myrtle Beach, SC; a sister, Elizabeth Turgeon of Thermopolis, WY; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth in 1991 and her son, Donald in 2008.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, June 29, 2024, at 1:00 PM in Riverside Cemetery, Lunenburg. Reverend Gerry Piper, pastor of United Methodist Church of Springfield, VT, will officiate.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to a charity of one’s choice.
