Helen Barbara Henson, age eighty nine, of Country Village Center died June 30, 2008. Mrs. Henson was born at Forest Home, Alabama, the daughter of the late Frank and Gertrude L. Watt. A graduate of Greenville Alabama High School, Mrs. Henson attended Alabama College, Montvallo, Alabama, where she received her Bachelor of Science Degree. She taught school, was a stewardess for Capital Air Lines and also worked as a secretary for the Adjutant General at Headquarters Replacement and School Command located in Birmingham, Alabama. She was also a Red Cross Staff Director in the Panama Canal Zone. After working in different capacities at the Lancaster National Bank, she retired after thirty four years. She was a member of the Lancaster Congregational Church and served as its treasurer for several years. She was Worthy Matron of Olive Brand Chapter and also served as its treasurer. She was a member of the Weeks Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and was also a hospital volunteer. At one time she was town chairman of the Cancer Drive. For recreation she was a member of the Lancaster bowling league and was an avid golfer.
Her husband, Guy Henson, preceded her in 1991. She is survived by two sisters Miriam Rollins of Onesta, Alabama and Gertrude Jordan and husband Colland of Marietta, Georgia, and her niece, Peggy (Henson) Horvath and husband Steve of Tallahassee, Florida, and devoted friend Jeanette Corrigan and husband Ken of Randolph, New Hampshire.
There will be no calling hours. Service will be in the Lancaster Congregational Church on Thursday, July 3, at 11:00 AM. Internment will be in the Summer Street Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Lung Association or to the American Research for Cancer.
