EAST CONCORD - Herbert Ellis Berry, 87, died on Thursday, May 14, 2015 at the Veterans Nursing Home in Tilton.
Hebert was born June 24, 1927 to Herbert N. Berry and Stella J. Hayes. He grew up in St. Johnsbury, Vt. with his brothers James and Walter, and a sister Madeline. He went to the St. Johnsbury Trade School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in May of 1945, served on the YMS 416 Mine Sweep as a 3rd Class Seaman. He served until July of 1946.
After returning home from the Navy, he met and married Marion Elogene Boutwell. They built their home in East Concord, Vermont, to raise their family. Herbert worked at Gilman Paper Mill for 42yrs. as a Mill Wright. His retirement years were spent with his wife, the love of his life. He loved a house full of family and friends, reading, camping, hunting and gardening. He was very involved in the East Concord United Methodist Church, the Boy Scouts, Masons and Eastern Star.
He leaves behind, his daughter Elogene and husband Steven Weliever, daughter Christine and husband Paul Moore, son Edward and wife Susan Berry. His grandchildren, Aaron, Alycia, Nancy, Vickie, Eric, Angela, Melinda, Heather, George, Stephanie and Chastity. He has 16 great-grandchildren, Ryley, Faythe, Tyler, Emily, Elizabeth, Zackery, Arthur, Zachery, Ellen, Ericka, Ryan, Damion, Dillion, Kyle, Dakota, Zachary. He is survived by his brother Walter Berry.
He is predeceased by his loving wife Marion of 56 years and daughter Marilyn Charlette. His parents Herbert and Stella, his brother James and sister Madeline.
A celebration of life will take place on May 29, 2015 at 11:00am at the East Concord United Methodist Church. A luncheon will follow the service in the downstairs dining room.
