WHITEFIELD - Herbert E. Glines, 93, of Knothole Road, died at his home Monday evening, December 10, 2012.
Mr. Glines was born in Carroll, NH on June 1, 1919, the son of Murray A. and Beatrice Ethel (Hunt) Glines. He was raised in Twin Mountain and was a graduate of Twin Mountain High School and the University of New Hampshire. During World War II he served overseas with the US Army. Upon his return he continued his studies and acquired his Ed.D. from Columbia University.
For over 30 years he was a professor of Mathematics at the University of Bridgeport. He was also actively involved with the sports department and served as the university's Athletic Director for many years.
In the early 80's he retired, moved back to North Country and settled in Whitefield. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, cross country skiing and square dancing. He was a former volunteer at Weeks Medical Center and served on the Board of Trustees.
Family members include his wife Anne (Carlisle) Glines of Whitefield; a son Thomas B. Glines Sr. of Fairfield, CT; a daughter-in-law Sarah Halpine of Montpelier; grandchildren Joanne Grosso, Thomas Glines Jr., Gene Glines, Morgan Glines, Aaron Halpine and a great-grandaughter Jamie Grosso. He was predeceased by two sons Kenneth Glines and Eugene Glines.
A graveside service will be held in the Spring at Starr King Cemetery, Jefferson.
