ESSEX, VT -
Irene B. Wood, 90, formerly of Gilman died on February 26, 2016. She was surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Swanton, Vt. on June 14, 1925, a daughter of William and Tressia Tuttle. She married Richard E. Wood of Gilman in 1948. He predeceased her in 2006.
For twenty-five years she worked at the Littleton Coin and Stamp Company as an analyzer. After retiring, she volunteered at the Weeks Hospital and the Dalton School.
Irene was a long time 4-H group leader and Sunday School teacher. She was a member of The Order of the Eastern Star and the Gilman United Methodist Church. She regularly attended the Essex United Methodist Church. She loved to cook and donated many of her baked goods to church, community functions, and friends.
Surviving family members include her daughters, Nancy Nye and her husband Alan of Essex, and Barbara Hartshorn and her husband Bruce of Jericho. She will also be greatly missed by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Benjamin Nye and his wife Mindy, Nicholas Hartshorn, Abigail Hoppe and her husband David, Elizabeth Nye, Anna Hoppe, Owen Nye, and Oliver Hoppe. Other surviving family include her brother, Marvin Tuttle, and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at the Essex United Methodist Church on Center Road at 10:00 A.M. on March 5.

will be held Saturday afternoon May 14
th
at 1:30 PM. Reverend Peg Hilliard, pastor of the Gilman and Lunenburg Methodist Churches will officiate.
