Jacqueline B. Nichols

, only daughter of Jack and Martha Miracle Bruce, was born in Harlan, Kentucky on October 14, 1941 and died at home in Lancaster on September 29, 2010.

Ms. Nichols grew up in Barstow, California, where she was a highly-honored student at Barstow High School, and received her B.A. in English from Wellesley College in 1963.  That same year she married David E. Nichols, who died in 2004.  Nichols earned a Master's degree in Anthropology from SUNY Albany and worked for several years as a field archaeologist before founding Atechiston, Inc., an academic publishing company, and becoming the publisher of

American Archaeology

.  Ms. Nichols moved to Lancaster in 2002, where she attended the Congregational Church of Christ and was a supporter of the Lancaster Historical Society.

She is survived by her great-aunt, Joyce (Mabel) Smith, and by her three children, Corinna, David, and Patrick.  A memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM on October 5, 2010 at the Congregational Church of Christ in Lancaster.

There are no visiting hours. A memorial service will be held Tuesday afternoon, October 5, at 4:00 PM in the Lancaster Congregation United Church of Christ. Reverend Sharon Van der laan, pastor, will officiate.
