James Stone

April 7, 1936 — December 10, 2010

STRATFORD - James Stone, 74, of McMann Road, died Friday afternoon, December 10, 2010, after a long illness. He was surrounded by his loving family at his daughter's home in Lancaster.

Mr. Stone was born in Stratford, NH, on April 7, 1936, the son of Frank Omega and Isabelle (Sargent) Stone.

A longtime logger and woodsman he was a real outdoorsman. He loved fishing and hunting, especially bear hunting with his bear hounds. Jim enjoyed cooking and was well known for his delicious apple pie, doughnuts, venison stew, biscuits and homemade rolls. He enjoyed riding his "big blue four wheeler" out in the bog.

His deepest passion was staying up to his log cabin with his family and friends. He will be truly missed by his family and friends that knew him. There is a saying, "All that really matters in the end is that you were loved," and Jimmy truly was.

Family members include the love of his life for 37 years, wife Dorothy Losier Hanson Stone of Stratford; four sons, Michael Stone, David Stone, and Bradley Stone all of Stratford, Brian Stone and his girlfriend Tammy of Bloomfield, VT; a daughter Jana Stone Whitney and her husband Tom Whitney of Lancaster; two step-daughters, Lisa Willey and husband Jeff Willey of Shelburne, Melissa Hanson and partner Kimberly Phillips of Lancaster; 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; he was known as "Poppy" to his special ten year old grandson Trae Whitney who will miss him dearly; a brother Samuel Stone amd wife Carlene of Stratford; a half sister Ellie; several nieces and nephews, including a special nephew Josh Stone; and friends. He was predeceased by a son Jeremy Stone and five brothers.

There will be a celebration of his life on Thursday December 16, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Jana's home, 113 Portland Street, Lancaster.
