James F. Szurley

JEFFERSON - James F. Szurley, 65, of Presidential Highway, died suddenly at his home Thursday May 28, 2015.

Mr. Szurley was born in Lowell, MA on November 18, 1949 the son of John Stanley and Victoria (Suslowicz) Szurley.  He was raised in Tewksbury, MA where he graduated high school and then enlisted in the US Army.  He was deployed to Vietnam during the war and was a recipient of the Bronze Star.  He was also stationed for a time in Germany.  Returning home he continued to live in Massachusetts and Southern, NH until moving permanently to Jefferson in 1978.

For over 30 years Jim was a groundskeeper for the SAU 36 White Mountain Regional School District.  Highly regarded by the students a yearbook was once dedicated to him at the White Mountain Regional High School.

Jim enjoyed hunting and fishing.  For over 20 years he was an instructor for hunter education and he was also a moose and bear guide.  He also enjoyed spending time with his grandsons Jaden & Colden.

Surviving family members include his daughter Jennifer (Szurley) McFarland and her husband Jeremy of Lancaster; his son John Szurley and his significant other Constance McKearney; grandsons Jaden and Colden; his brother Peter Szurley and his wife Bernadette of Tewksbury, MA; and one nephew.

A celebration of Jim's life will be held Sunday, June 14, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM at the Jefferson Town Hall.
