JEFFERSON - Janette R. Gilbert passed away on February 20, 2016 at Country Village Genesis Eldercare Center, Lancaster, with her son at her side.

Janette was born in Lancaster on February 23, 1933 the daughter of Joseph and Rose (Smith) Barney and was a lifelong resident of Jefferson.

She was a strong, loving and devoted Mom.  Her focus was raising her children.  She loved to cook, sew, camp, horses, ice cream and smoothies.  A master gardener, Janette will be remembered by her display of 100 items for over four decades at Lancaster Fair.

For several years she worked at Connors and Hoffman Shoe Shop.  She was very proud to complete her GED after raising her children.  She donated over four gallons of blood to the Red Cross.  She especially enjoyed family gatherings which included her famous homemade stuffing.

Mom and Uncle Joe loved to yard sale.  Together they refurbished their treasures only to resell at their yard sales.

Janette was a devoted mom to five children; Burt Gilbert and wife Susan of Lancaster; Shirley Kenison-Ward and partner Mark Nickles of North Haverill, Elaine Binette of Twin Mountain, Rose McDaniel of Orford and Edward Jr.  She also has 5 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her beloved son Edward Jr.; parents Joseph and Rose; Joseph and Edward Gilbert; and a brother Arthur Barney.

Visiting hours will be held Wednesday evening February 24 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home in Lancaster.  A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday afternoon at 1:00 PM at All Saints Church in Lancaster.  Reverend Matthew Mason, pastor, will officiate.  Burial will be in the spring in St. Matthew's Cemetery, Whitefield.
