Jean Ella Whitney

October 7, 1935 — October 11, 2024

LANCASTER, NH – On October 11, 2024, Jean Ella Whitney, 89, went to be with her Lord and Savior, after a long battle with cancer. She was born on October 7, 1935, in Lancaster, the daughter of Arthur Gould and Ethel Gould Hodge.

Jean grew up “Out East”, went to school and graduated twelfth grade in 1953. On July 11, 1953, she married the love of her life, Ross Whitney. She lived her life as a wife and a mother of two children, Rockie and Rebecca. She never worked outside the home, as she felt her children were more important. She made many lasting friendships through the years.

She spent the last few years of her life living in Genesis Country Village, where she made many more lasting friendships and enjoyed her favorite pastime coloring pictures. She loved everybody and they loved her. Whenever someone told her, “I love you!” she would answer, “I love you more!!”

Jean is survived by her children, Rockie Whitney and Rebecca Whitney, daughter-in-law Laura Whitney and grandchildren Alicia Whitney and Adam Whitney, along with many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Ross, two stepfathers, Steve Emerson and Charlie Hodge, her aunts, Ella Bishop and Blanche Hutchinson, an uncle, Dick Carter, her brother Fred Gould, a grandson, Cory Whitney, and a great-grandson.

There will be a graveside service on November 2, 2024, at 11:00 AM in Summer Street Cemetery, Lancaster. Paula Dunn will officiate.
