Jeanette A. Lewis

LUNENBURG - Jeanette A. Lewis, 82, of South Lunenburg Road, died Monday morning February 9, 2009, at the Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital, St. Johnsbury.

Mrs. Lewis was born in Lunenburg on May 13, 1926, the daughter of Joseph and Rose (Boucher) Fournier.

For many years she was employed as a telephone operator for New England Telephone.  During the mid 40's she once noticed three phone lines had gone down in the Parker Drug Store building.  She notified the local police who discovered a fire in the building.  Jeanette was credited at that time for saving most of downtown Littleton.  She also worked for a time at Connors & Hoffman in Littleton.

Jeanette was Communicant of St. Leo's Church in Lunenburg.  She was also member of the Gilman Senior Citizens and was an avid bingo player.

Family members include her daughter Roxanna M. White and her husband Durwood of Lancaster; two grandchildren, Steven Bennett of Northwood, NH, Jennifer Beach and her husband Richie of Dover; two great-granddaughters, Madeline & Jeanette; a niece Susan Hall and her husband Dale of Lunenburg; and many other nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her husband Maynard R. "Mink" Lewis in 1997 and a daughter Arlene Lewis.

Visiting hours will be held Wednesday evening February 11, from 6:00 to 8:00 at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday morning at 10:00 AM at St. Leo's Church, Lunenburg.  Rev. Patrick Foreman, pastor of St. John's Church in St. Johnsbury, will officiate.  Burial will be in the spring in Riverside Cemetery, S. Lunenburg.
