WHITEFIELD - Joan M. Kopp, 91, of Hall Road, died peacefully at her home Friday morning November 21, 2014 surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Kopp was born in Freeport, Long Island, NY on May 15, 1923 the daughter of Raymond and Grace (Holmes) Malone.  She was raised in Freeport and graduated from Freeport High School in 1941.  Furthering her schooling she later worked as a draftsman for Columbia Aircraft in Valley Stream, Long Island.

On July 1, 1945 she married Alexander Kopp and moved to Whitefield in 1947 to raise their family away from the city.  For a year they owned and operated the Spruces Hotel and later purchased a farm house on Hall road providing continued accommodations to guests.  Al went on to establish North Country Ford in Lancaster.  Joan taught ceramics in Whitefield and had her own shop for five years.  She was a ceramics artist selling her work at gift shops such as the Cog Railway and special orders including gold leaf eagles for offices in the Pentagon and the large nativity at St. Matthew's church in Whitefield.

She was a Communicant of St. Matthews Church in Whitefield and was a member of the Central NH Model T Club. A favorite hobby was making beautiful handmade braided rugs for her family.

She will be dearly missed by her two daughters Kathleen Kopp of Whitefield, Sally Anne Maroon and husband Bob of Whitefield and Boothbay Harbor, ME, and daughter in law, Mary Kopp of Lancaster; a sister Mary Eileen Ahern of Whitefield; 5 grandchildren Michael Kopp and wife Sharon of Lancaster, Keith Kopp and wife Amy of Lancaster, Allison Marro and Steve Kenison of Lancaster, Ethan Marro and wife Alexandra of Pepperell, MA, and Casey Maroon and wife Sarah of Whitefield and Boothbay Harbor ME, eight great-grandchildren, as well as her wonderful caregivers. She was predeceased by her husband of 63 and a half years, Alexander in 2009, her son Kevin Kopp in 2013, and brother Raymond Malone of Freeport, Long Island, NY.

At Joan's request there are no visiting hours.  A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Friday morning November 28th at 11:00 AM at St. Matthews Church.  Reverend Matthew Mason, pastor, will officiate.  Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in St. Matthews Cemetery.
