LANCASTER- John A. Emerson, 22, died suddenly Sunday, April 17, 2011, at his home on Summer Street.

John was born in Hanover, NH, on January 25, 1989, the son of Mark M. and Teresa A. (DeVoid) Emerson.

He attended local schools and was a graduate of White Mountain Regional High School in 2009. John was employed as a fire fighter for the Lancaster Fire Department and as an Explorer for Lancaster EMS. He had presently been training to become a first responder. He also worked with Common Ground, Whitefield, assisting with the Meals on Wheels program.

He was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church, Lancaster, where he volunteered his time helping with dinners and the Food Pantry run by his grandmother Myra Emerson. He was also a participant in the Special Olympics.

John was outgoing and well known in the Lancaster community.

Family members include his parents of Lancaster; his sister Amber Emerson of Lancaster; his paternal grandmother, Myra E. Emerson of Lancaster; his maternal grandparents George & Judy DeVoid of California; his aunts Holly H. Emerson of Puyallup, WA, Roxie A. Severance and husband John of Whitefield, Lorraine J. Emerson and husband Michael Dauphinais of Westminster, MA, Tammy R. Lazott and husband William of Lancaster, Debra Piper of California; and numerous cousins. He was predeceased by a brother Michael Lee Emerson and his paternal grandfather Fred A. Emerson.

Visiting hours will be held Wednesday evening, April 20, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at the Lancaster Fire Department on Mechanic Street. A funeral service will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 at the Christ United Methodist Church, Lancaster. Reverend Ron Bruce, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Summer Street Cemetery.
