John Oliver Klinefelter

March 31, 1930 — July 9, 2008

GUILDHALL - John Oliver Klinefelter, 78, of Route 102, died Wednesday morning July 9, 2008, at Weeks Medical Center, Lancaster.

Mr. Klinefelter was born in Gilead, Maine, on March 31, 1930, the son of John Richard and Albina (Bergeron) Klinefelter.

John was a 1948 graduate of Canaan High School, Canaan, VT, where he was an outstanding athlete particularly in baseball and basketball.  For 22 years he served with the US Navy and was on active duty during the Vietnam War and the Korean Conflict.  Returning to the North Country he worked many years as an electrician for Groveton Paper until his retirement.

In the town of Guildhall he held several offices including those of Selectman and Tax Collector.  He also coached youth baseball and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Memberships include the Benton Lodge F & AM #88, Guildhall, the UPIU, PACE, and USW Local 61.

Family members include his wife of 48 ½ years, Marion (Hodge) Klinefelter of Guildhall; a son William J. Klinefelter of Alexandria, VA; a brother Leslie Klinefelter of Canaan, VT; three grandchildren, Chris, Amanda, Sarah; and two great-grandsons, Joe and Adam.  A brother, George Klinefelter predeceased him.

Visiting hours will be held Friday afternoon and evening, July 11, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster.  A Masonic service will be held at 7:45 PM.  A funeral service will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 AM in the Guildhall Community Church.  Rev. Gerry Piper of Danville will officiate.  Burial with military honors will follow in the Ridgwell Cemetery, Guildhall.
