LANCASTER - John E. Lane Sr., 83, of Bunker Hill Street, died Monday April 16, 2007, at Weeks Medical Center, Lancaster.
Mr. Lane was born in Colebrook on July 25, 1923, the son of Robert and Goldie (Johnson) Lane.
Raised in Maine he was a graduate of Standish High School. During WWII he served with the US Army Air Corps in the South Pacific. Returning home he was employed 44 years with New England Telephone as a construction supervisor. He has resided in Lancaster since 1965.
John was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Lancaster, and life member of the American Legion, VFW, and the Telephone Pioneers.
Family members include his wife of 59 years, Ona (Bond) Lane of Lancaster; a son John E. Lane Jr. and is wife Lori of Lancaster; two daughters, Judy B. Covell and her husband Earle of Alton Bay, NH, Rita Ellen Lane of Westbrook, ME; three sisters, Roberta Lane, Georgia Wilson, and Shirley Lord, all of Steep Falls, Maine; and three grandchildren, Hilary Henry, Conner Lane, and Keelin Lane.
At John Sr.'s request there are no visiting hours. A graveside service with military honors will be held at a later date in the Canaan Village Cemetery, Canaan, VT.
