JEFFERSON, NH - John B. Nay, 83 of Jefferson, NH died on Monday, November 25, 2013 at Weeks Memorial Hospital in Lancaster, NH.

He was the son of Harford and Roma Nay and is survived by his wife of 38 years, Bernadette Nay; his children, Diane Nay White of Strafford, VT, John Nay Jr. of Arlington, MA, a stepson Edward Breagy of Concord, NH and two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

John attended local schools, graduating from Lancaster Academy in 1948.

He received his Bachelor of Education from Keene State College in 1952 majoring in Industrial Arts.

Following graduation he served in the US Army as an instructor at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds.

Upon discharge he became a faculty member at Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, NH where he remained for 11 years as an Industrial Arts teacher and Guidance Counselor.

During this period and in subsequent years he earned his Masters Degree in Education and a Certificate of Advanced Study.

He was director of Guidance at Groveton High School from 1965 to 1969 when he became a one year recipient of a Ford Foundation Fellowship.

He then became a founding member of North Country Education Services until he became a consultant in the New Hampshire Department of Education where he remained until his retirement in 1991.

He was active in the Masonic Fraternity where he twice served as the Master of North Star Lodge No. 8 in Lancaster.

He participated in Scottish Rite Masonry serving as president officer of the Lodge of Perfection and Rose Croix.

He was also an elected officer of the NH Consistory and was awarded the 33rd degree in Pittsburgh, PA in 1989.

He was also a member of the Easter Star and York Rite Masonry.

John enjoyed golf as a hobby in the North Country as well as in Ocala, FL at his winter home until 2008.

John researched, compiled and published a document of the descendants of John and Abigail Webster Nay over a period of several years.

At John's request no calling hours or public services will be held.
