JEFFERSON - John W. Silver Sr., 74, of Bailey Road, died Friday, October 29th, 2021, at the Cheshire Medical Center, Keene, NH, after a recent illness.
John was born in Lancaster, NH on February 18, 1947, the son of Francis L. and Philida (Rogers) Silver. He was a lifetime resident of Jefferson, graduating from Jefferson Elementary and later Berlin High School, Class of 1965.
In Berlin, John became a certified welder and then went to Portsmouth to become a certified bridge welder. At 18 years of age, he started working parttime for the NH Department of Transportation in Crawford Notch. Five years later he acquired a full-time position as assistant patrolman. He later attained the position of patrolman of which he worked until 50 years of age. At that time, he concentrated his time and energy in his growing landscaping and construction business, John W. Silver Sr. Lawn Yard and Garden Service. He will be remembered as a hard-working Jefferson native.
John was an avid outdoorsman. For many years he was a fur trapper and he loved to hunt and fish. He was a member of the National Rifle Association.
Surviving family members include his wife Margaret "Peggy" (Rines) Silver of Jefferson; his children Tami Celso and husband Darren, John W. Silver Jr. and wife Cindy, Kathi Stebbins and husband Craig; grandchildren, Joshua, Travis, Crystal, Corey, Jacob; and great-grandchildren Eliza and Jaxson. John was predeceased by his parents.
Visiting hours will be held Tuesday evening, November 2 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A graveside service will be held Wednesday morning at 10:00AM in the Forest Vale Cemetery, Jefferson. Rev. Dean A. Stiles, pastor of the Jefferson Christian Church, will officiate.
