Joseph Wilford Gilbert

Jefferson- Joseph Wilford "Uncle Joe" Gilbert, 94, passed away on August 8, 2012 at Weeks Medical Center. Mr. Gilbert was born on May 2, 1918 moving to Jefferson in 1938.

Mr. Gilbert enjoyed horses and showing vegetables at the Lancaster and Fryeburg Fairs. He was especially proud of the car he built from scratch piece by piece with George Stevens. On January 3, 2012 he was presented with an award for being the oldest living citizen of Jefferson.

He is survived by his sister-in-law and care giver of 25 years Jeanette Gilbert of Jefferson, A nephew Burt Gilbert of Lancaster, three nieces Rose McDaniel of Orford, Elaine Binette of Twin Mountain and Shirley Kenison-Ward of Piermont.

Family and friends are invited to visiting hours on Thursday August 9 from 6-8 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home in Lancaster. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday August 10 at All Saints Church at 1 PM with Reverend Matthew Mason officiating. Burial will follow in St. Matthews Cemetery in Whitfield.
