Joseph E. Gott

November 11, 1938 — March 13, 2008

LANCASTER - Joseph E. Gott, 69, died Thursday morning March 13, 2008 at his home on Portland Street.

Mr. Gott was born in Springfield, Missouri on November 11, 1938, the son of Edmond and Jessie Marie (Steele) Gott.

Joe was raised in Springfield, Missouri and then attended St. Benedicts College in Atchison, Kansas earning his undergraduate degree.  He furthered his education at the University of Missouri where he earned his graduate degree.  During the Vietnam War he served in the US Marine Corp with the Intelligence Division.  Returning stateside he continued his studies at Northeastern University.  Several years later he attended the prosthetics program at Northwestern University becoming a prosthetist.  He moved to Lancaster to own and operate the Lancaster Motor Inn for 18 years, retiring in 2003.

He continued his military career throughout his life having served 25 years in the U.S. Marine Reserves, retiring as a Lt. Colonel.

He was a member of the Lancaster Rotary Club.

Family members include his wife Elena Alexeevna (Voronova) Gott of Lancaster; two daughters, Heather Durrell and her husband Ian of London, England; Elise Bellitti and her husband Ty of Bellingham, MA; two stepsons, Michael Reznichenko and Konstantin Reznichencko both of Moscow, Russia; a brother John Gott and his wife Sherrie of Missouri; two sisters Penny Ricketts and her husband Cliff of Missouri, Mary Gott of Missouri; two grandchildren Alexey and Veronica of Moscow, Russia; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial visiting hours will be held Sunday afternoon, March 16, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster.  At 4:00 PM an informal time of remembrance will follow at the funeral home.  Friends and family will be invited to share thoughts and memories of Joe at that time.  Following the time of remembrance everyone is invited to a reception at Elena's on Portland Street.
