Joseph “Joe” Saturnia, 86, of Whitefield, New Hampshire and formerly of Johnson, New York, passed away on Saturday, February 14th, 2026, at Weeks Medical Center in Lancaster.
Joe was born September 10th, 1939, to Anthony Patrick Saturnia and Blanche Marie (Dunn) in Dover, New Jersey. In 1979 he met and began dating his long-time companion and spouse, Denise. In 1997 they married in Warwick, New York. Together they lived for 20 years in Johnson, New York, until moving to Whitefield in 2020.
Joe and Denise vacationed each summer at Tall Timber Lodge in Pittsburg, New Hampshire, which began their love for the state and its beauty.
Joe was a kind and caring man. Loved by many. In his 30’s he counseled first offenders at Rahway State Prison, New Jersey. Upon moving to New York, he joined the Johnson Fire Department in 2009. He proudly served as not only a volunteer firefighter but as President from 2012 to 2016. He also served the department as their Engineer. In 2011 Joe was presented with the prestigious Firefighter of the Year Award. He was happy and proud to have served his community for his decade atthe department.
Joe was employed in Customer Service and Sales Administration for many years at L’Oreal in New Jersey and New York City. Upon moving to upstate New York, he began employment as Sales Administrator at Lehn & Fink, Montvale, New Jersey, from which he retired in 1994.
Joe will also be remembered for his love of life, family, and many friends; his delicious Italian cooking (Joey’s Meataballs!), his love for fishing, the outdoors, and nature. He loved photography and was a talented artist interested in painting and crafts. He was quick-witted and funny and was always ready to raise a laugh or a smile. He had a deep love for animals and they for him.
Predeceasing Joe in passing are his parents, his sisters (Connie, Marilyn, and Beverly), and his beloved grandson Ricky Levy.
Survivors include his wife, Denise, and three children, Gina Levy; Beverly Smith (Jim); and Jacqueline Heard (Derek). He also leaves behind five grandchildren Michele Levy-Phillips (Ryan); Samantha Smith-Palmer (Clark); Katie Smith; Sandy Rutzebeck; and Grace Ann O’Neill.
Services will be held in the Spring at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Johnson Fire Department, PO Box 85, Johnson, New York, 10933.
