Joseph James Smith, Jr.

Joseph James Smith Jr was born in Lancaster NH to Celeste E.(Phelps) Smith and Joseph James Smith SR. He attended all schools in Groveton NH. Joseph joined the Army and was stationed in Hawaii where he got his GED. A short stay in California but he missed his mountains. He worked at various places before a career moving for Normandeau and was very proud of the masonry work he did with monuments often pointing them out on road trips. His job at the time of retirement was at Maple Grove Farm in St Johnsbury, VT. Joe lived with Gloria Gibson (GiGi) for 30 yrs. He fought a long history with cancer starting in 2016. Joe loved to fish and catch. He enjoyed playing cribbage with family and friends and was also a skilled pool player. Joseph absolutely loved cheese burgers.

He is survived by his wife Ginette (Blais) Smith; Daughter Claire Gerald(Chad); Sister Janet Thomas (Stephen Dufour); Niece Molly Dempsey (Christina) and Sons Caleb & Grayson; Nephew Benjamin Dufour(Sarah) and many cousins. He leaves behind his beloved dog Mya; cat Stewie and his birds Oddie, Aires, Casper, Rocky and Skylar.

A Memorial Service with Military Honors will take place at Northumberland Cemetery, 328 Main Street, Groveton at 1:00pm on Saturday, September 14th. A get togethering will follow at the American Legion in Groveton. The family would like to give a special thanks to his PCP Sonia Gilbert and oncologist Dr Ripple, North Country Home Health & Hospice,as well as all family and friends who have helped during this time.
