Josephine Helen Cantin Ball

March 17, 1932 — May 13, 2014

GILMAN - Josephine Helen Cantin Ball, 82, of Commercial Avenue, died May 13, 2014 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Ball was born in Lancaster on March 17, 1932 the daughter William Charles and Anna Elizabeth (Hardy) Cantin.

Josephine was a member of the Gilman Senior Citizens where she volunteered much of her time.  She was a member of the ALTA & Rosary Society since the 1960's.  She was a certified exercise instructor for the Vermont Department of Health and taught the Strong Living Program.  The program promoted wellness for all ages building healthy communities thru physical activity.  She served on the committee to take back Gilman Fire Department for the town of Lunenburg and was a 4-H instructor.  In the 1960's she operated a wedding cake business called Jo's Wedding Cakes.  For two years she was president of the Gilman-Lunenburg Altar Society.

Josephine was mother not only to her own children but to many others, especially her nieces and nephews.

Her husband Myrlin Richard Roy Ball Sr. predeceased her in 1998.

Surviving family members include three sons, Myrlin R.R. Ball Jr. and his wife Gail of Lunenburg, James David Ball and his wife Joan of Gilman, Alan Thomas Ball and his wife Jolene of Highgate Center, VT; a daughter Anna Marie Ball Charlebois and her husband Raymond of St. Augustine, FL; two brothers, Harland Cantin of Guildhall, Leonard Cantin of East Haven; her best friend James B. Messer Sr. of Gilman; 11 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  She was also predeceased by four brothers, Phillip Cantin, William Cantin, Arnold Cantin, Wallace Baker and two sisters, Virginia Caron and Madeline Rosebrook.

At Josephine's request there are no visiting hours.  A memorial mass will be held Tuesday morning May 20 at 11:00 AM at All Saints Church, Lancaster.  Reverend Matthew Mason, pastor, will officiate.  Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lancaster.
