GROVETON - Joyce S. Halvorson 89, formerly of Whitefield passed away peacefully surrounded by her daughters at Weeks Medial Center in Lancaster early Tuesday morning, March 1, 2022, after a brief illness.
Joyce was born in Berlin on February 21, 1933. The daughter of Fred Silts and Edith "Tucker" Silts. She was raised in Berlin and a graduate of Berlin High School. She married Robert T. Halvorson in 1952 and they enjoyed 57 years of marriage until Robert's passing in 2009.
After Graduation Joyce was employed as a switch board operator for Bell Telephone. In 1964 she and Robert moved to Whitefield and for 23 years she enjoyed working as a cook at the McIntyre School. She was a devoted wife and mother and well-liked by many.
In 2007 Robert and Joyce moved to Groveton and resided with their daughter Linda and husband Michael. There she became a communicant of St. Frances Xavier Church. Joyce enjoyed camping and her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family whom cherished her.
Surviving family members include her daughters, Sharon A. Smith and husband "Clair" of Litchfield NH and Linda J. Kelly and husband "Michael" of Groveton NH; grandchildren, Erica Dexter Siracuse, Alexis Smith, and Sarah Kelly Seckla; 4 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, and two brothers Alfred Silts and Edward Silts.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday morning March 10, at 11 AM at the St. Frances Xavier Church, Groveton, NH. Reverend Daniel Deveau, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the spring in Park Street Cemetery, Whitefield, NH.
