LANCASTER - Joyce M. Smith, 85, of Water Street, died Saturday morning, February 11, 2017 at Country Village Genesis Eldercare Center, Lancaster, after a recent illness.
Mrs. Smith was born in Lancaster on February 23, 1931 the daughter of Bradley and Verna Rae (Newman) Thomas. She was a lifetime resident of Lancaster attending Lancaster Academy. On April 3, 1948 she married Edward C. Smith of Lancaster.
Joyce worked many years as a deli/produce clerk for Butsons Supermarket. In her spare time she enjoyed reading, word puzzles, solitaire and collecting glassware. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary at John W. Weeks Post 3041, Lancaster.
Surviving family members include a son, Edward C Smith Jr. of Lancaster; two daughters, Verna M White of Lancaster, and Jodi A Rooney and husband John of Lancaster; 7 grandchildren and 2 step grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren and 6 step great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Edward Sr. in 2014 and a granddaughter Kristal White in 1970.
A graveside service will be held in the Spring at Calvary Cemetery in Lancaster and will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to the VFW Weeks Post 3041 Auxiliary, 259 Main Street Lancaster, NH 03584 or Riverside Rescue, 236 Riverside Ave. Lunenburg, VT 05906.
