LANCASTER - Juliette H. Grondin, 89, died peacefully at her home, Monday morning, September 18, 2023.
Mrs. Grondin was born in Biddeford, Maine, on March 22, 1934, the daughter of Rosario and Rose Eva (Manseau) Demers. She was raised in Biddeford ME and was a graduate of St. Joseph High School.
As a young woman, Julie's high school teachers recommended her for a bookkeeping position at a family plumbing and heating supply company in Biddeford called Grondin Supply. She was hired and worked there until she met Bob Grondin, returning home from studying overseas. They married in December of 1957 and began their life together, eventually having seven children. Julie and Bob moved several times to accommodate Bob's career, including Mexico, Rumford and Biddeford, Maine. In 1969 a move to Dover, NH was followed by a move to Lancaster NH in 1973. It was decided to live in Lancaster largely due to a friend suggesting that Col. Town Recreation, directed by Lou Leaver, would be the perfect place for his growing family to grow and thrive. They lived most of their lives in Lancaster and Julie was given the peace of mind that her children were safe and happy with the services Col Town provided. Penacook NH was the only other move Julie was asked to make for Bob’s career, where they lived for 10 years in between 1978 - 1988.
For most of her life Julie was a devoted mother and provider for her seven children, with her beloved husband Bob. In addition to her work as a mom, Julie worked many jobs outside the home; in the former Lancaster elementary school she was a popular cafeteria lunch lady and in Penacook she continued in that tradition at the Merrimack Valley High School cafeteria, where she watched over her teenage children. Also in Penacook she worked at Vet’s Market, where she was postmaster, cashier and cook in the old general store tradition. Returning to Lancaster she was a long time employee of LaVerdiere’s which then became Rite Aid. In retirement Julie enjoyed volunteer work at Weeks Medical Center. She was also a Communicant of All Saints Church, where she worshipped for 40 years. In her spare time, she loved to knit for her large family, who were constantly in her orbit. Bob’s famous weekly Sunday morning breakfasts could not have been half as famous without Julie’s helping hand.
Surviving family members include her children, Ann Huddleston and her husband Eric of Lancaster, Linda Rexford and her husband David of Lancaster, Michael Grondin formerly of NY City, Daniel Grondin and his wife Kate of Charlestown MA, Betty Grondin-Jose and her husband Rick of Marlow NH, Denise Mawn and her husband Kevin of Nashua and Peter Grondin and Kim Buxton of Bedford NH; 13 grandchildren, Kristin Huddleston Lau and Alex of Andover MA, Trevor Huddleston and Rachel of Dover NH, Katey Rexford Ballard and Jeff of Gorham ME, Leanne Rexford Beaty and Cooper of Winter Park FL, Christopher and Alexander Grondin of Charlestown MA, Grace Jose of Quincy MA and Bowen Jose of Buzzards Bay MA, Cody and Connor Mawn of Hudson NH and Colleen Mawn of Nashua NH, Andrew Grondin of San Diego CA and Jared Grondin of Concord NH. Julie has five great grandchildren; Madelyn and Sophia Huddleston, Emersyn and Davis Lau, and Mathew Ballard, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by Bob in 2008. Her siblings Leo, Ferdinand, Doris, Richard and Raymond also predeceased her.
At Juliette’s request there are no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, Saturday, September 23rd at 10:00 AM at All Saints Church, Lancaster. Reverend Britto Adaikalam, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
